Cannabidiol — “CBD” for short — is all the rage these days. You’ll find CBD in all manner of products, from CBD-infused coffees to more straightforward CBD concentrates. Taking CBD is supposed to be good for your mind and body, but in order to enjoy the effects, you’ll need to take enough of the stuff that causes it. That begs the question of dosage. Just how much CBD are you supposed to take, and what will take more or less CBD actually do?

First things first — why should you take any CBD at all?
There’s a reason that so many people are talking about CBD right now. CBD crystals has powerful health benefits. According to the experts, CBD can reduce anxiety, help patients with mood disorders, ease the symptoms of insomnia, and more. And those are just the mental effects. CBD has benefits for your physical health, too, including the ability to reduce inflammation and the power to dull pain. CBD even has anti-cancer properties.
CBD is one of many cannabinoids — active ingredients in the drug marijuana. But CBD is non-psychoactive, which means that it will not get you high. This makes CBD a great choice for health buffs who are looking for something to add to their routines. CBD can be taken regularly, like a vitamin, or used on a case-by-case basis.
Which brings us to the reason we’re here. When you are taking CBD in one of these forms, how much should you actually take?
The perfect CBD dosage: a moving target
It’s tough to find reliable information about the “correct” CBD dosage because it’s actually a bit of a moving target. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to CBD dosing. Different people will need different dosages.
Then there’s the fact that CBD can take so many different physical forms. As we just discussed, it is possible to take CBD with a tincture, in an edible, or by vaping, among other options. And then there are the CBD products that are not designed to be taken orally — like skin creams, for instance.
It’s tough to say exactly how much CBD you should take. But we can establish some rules of thumb and experiment from there.
Rules of thumb
While there is no “correct” dose of CBD to start with, we can at least pick a starting point and establish some basic parameters.
First, don’t focus too much on “drops” of CBD from a tincture or on the number of edibles you consume. Without knowing the concentration of CBD in these items, the numbers just aren’t meaningful. Instead, evaluate how much CBD you’re actually taking. Start with a few milligrams for every 10 pounds of your body weight — anywhere from one to five mg per ten pounds is a fine jumping-off point. Take CBD orally if you want to enjoy its effects to the fullest.
Finding your ideal CBD dosage
One to five milligrams per 10 pounds of body weight is just a starting point, of course. Everyone is different, and you may find that your particular body and CBD ingestion method lead you to raise or lower that dose. CBD is very safe, so feel free to test things out and try larger doses if you feel that you’re not getting the most out of your CBD.
