Summer Skincare Tips For Flawless-Looking Skin

Summer weather is perfect for vacations, family gatherings, and outdoor activities, but it can wreak havoc on your skin. As you tend to spend more time outside, the heat, humidity, and UV Rays can lead to oily or dry skin, acne flare-ups, clogged pores, and dramatically increased signs of aging. While you could stay indoors, that’s no way to enjoy this beautiful season. A better option is to switch up your skincare routine to maintain flawless skin.

Stay Hydrated

During the summer months, the heat and humidity cause the body to release more water (sweat). Ultimately, it’s easier to become dehydrated. When dehydrated, it slows your blood circulation leading to wrinkly and dull-looking skin.  If you wish to keep that youthful glow this summer, it’s best to ensure you’re getting at least eight glasses of water a day.

Drink Alcohol And Sweet Beverages Moderately

It’s not uncommon to indulge in alcoholic and sweet beverages in the summertime. However, consuming too many of these drinks can cause skin problems. Alcohol dehydrates you, while sugar stiffens collagen and increases inflammation, leading to dryness, wrinkles, and acne flare-ups. Try to keep your intake to a minimum. If there’s an occasion when you plan to consume more alcohol or sugar than usual, ensure that you up your water intake to reduce complications.

Use A Light Moisturizer

Maintaining a healthy glow means keeping your skin hydrated and moisturized from the inside out. That includes applying lotion or moisturizer to your face and body. During the summer, it’s best to stick to light moisturizers, creams, and lotions, so they don’t clog your pores. You can opt for a product that’s best for your skin type or consider a stem cell moisturizer which is beneficial for all skin types and won’t clog your pores.

Exfoliate Weekly

Washing with soap and water isn’t always enough to keep your skin and pores clear. You’re also more active in the summertime increasing perspiration. If you want to keep dead skin, sweat, dirt, and other toxins off your skin, you should exfoliate at least once or twice a week. Exfoliating sheds dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and improves absoprtion of skincare products. You can purchase a scrub or make your own using all-natural ingredients . Use a loofa, bamboo brush, or other exfoliation tool and gently massage from head to toe before rinsing off in the shower.

Shower After Working Up A Sweat

Whether you’re going to the gym or hanging out at the park with your kids, it’s easy to work up a sweat in the summertime. Since sweat can clog your pores, it’s a good idea to take a shower after participating in rigorous activities (or at the very least, before going to bed).

Take It Easy On The Makeup

If makeup is part of your beauty routine, you may want to tone things down during the summer. The more products you apply to your face the more likely you are to experience clogged pores. As minimalist makeup is a growing trend, you can stick to basic products like a light foundation, lip gloss, and a hint of eyeshadow. Of course, there’s also nothing wrong with going au naturale this summer and embrace your natural beauty. If you do wear makeup, remember to remove it and wash your face thoroughly before going to bed.

Sun Protection Is A Must

Too much exposure to the sun’s UVrays can have a harmful effect on your skin. Therefore, you should always have protection. Opt for moisturizers, creams, lotions, and makeup that contain SPF. You can also apply a lightweight sunscreen. Finally, wearing a hat and sunglasses can provide additional protection for your face and eyes.

Summer is a time for fun, vacations, togetherness, and outdoor activities. Unfortunately, the intense heat and humidity aren’t good for your skin. If you want to maintain healthy flawless-looking skin, you’ll need to make adjustments to your routine. Drinking more water, consuming sugar and alcohol in moderation, using a lightweight moisturizer, exfoliating weekly, showering after physical activities, minimizing makeup, and wearing sun protection will keep your skin youthful and glowing all season.
