Liposuction 101: What You Need to Know

Liposuction 101

So, you’ve tried every diet and workout plan in the market, and those stubborn fats just won’t go away. It may be time to consider liposuction 101.

If you’re considering a tummy tuck, abdominoplasty, or liposuction, then you’ve found the perfect article for you. We’ve prepared this guide with everything you need to know about liposuction before booking that appointment for a Las Vegas liposuction.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction 101 is a cosmetic procedure that gets rid of stubborn fat. It is a surgical procedure wherein fat is suctioned from various parts of the body, and not just the stomach. It is also referred to as suction-assisted lipectomy or lipoplasty.

A licensed plastic surgeon targets the stubborn fat on your body that can’t be targeted through diet or exercise. It is definitely a good option for those who have run out of options for fat loss.

Can I get liposuction?

You can’t simply walk into a clinic and request for liposuction 101 . A candidate will need to go through assessment and consultations with the plastic surgeon.

A consultation will allow you to set realistic expectations. You will be able to discuss with your doctor your goal, and if it is feasible. Liposuction has limitations, such as that it does not get rid of cellulite.

Since it is an invasive surgical procedure, liposuction comes with risks. It is necessary that you are healthy, and that you have a strong immune system. A good candidate for the procedure must be within 30% of their ideal weight, not a smoker, and must have firm, elastic skin.

A doctor may discourage you from getting liposuction if you have heart disease, diabetes, problems with your blood flow, or any other health issues that may put you at risk.

What should I expect?

On the day of the procedure, we recommend bringing someone with you. It is not something that you need to be admitted for, and you will be able to go home right after. You will only be required to stay overnight if you are having a lot of fat removed.

You’ve probably seen in movies how doctors mark and encircle areas of your body that will be undergoing suction. It is also common to have a before-and-after photo taken in order to see the effect.

Afterwards, you will be receiving general anaesthesia or local. General anaesthesia will send you to sleep during the procedure, whereas local will allow you to be awake without feeling the pain.

How much does liposuction cost?

The amount of liposuction varies depending on how much fat needs to be suction, as well as the type of liposuction and treatment to be used.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons pegs the average cost of the surgeon/physician fee at $3,518 in 2018. Of course, it varies which is why we suggest a consultation before setting anything in stone.

What are the types of liposuction?

There are only 3 types of liposuction, but they all have the cannula in common. A cannula is a thin tube that is used to connect to a vacuum in order to suction the fat.

1. Tumescent liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is the most common technique used in liposuction in which a sterile solution is injected in the area targeted. The sterile solution has saline, which makes it easier to suction the fat.

2. SmartLipo or laser-assisted liposuction

This utilizes a laser that produces a burst of energy, liquefying the fat.

3. UAL or ultrasound-assisted liposuction

UAL uses the energy of sound waves under your skin that then ruptured the cell walls of fat. This also makes it easier for fat to be suctioned out.

We recommend going to an accredited and experienced doctor to get your liposuction procedure. If you have any other tips or questions, let us know in the comments!
